Depending on the make and model, the average stove should last anywhere between 13-15 years. That doesn’t mean your stove isn’t susceptible to everyday wear and tear that can cause issues down the line.

You can extend the lifetime of your stove by following these steps:

• Spills should be cleaned as soon as possible.
• Spills that have been sitting for a while should be cleaned up.
• Boilovers should be avoided.
• Keep stove parts clean on a regular basis.
• Your stove’s door should be cleaned inside and out.

There are obvious reasons to avoid leaving your stove on, but even if you forget about a burner, it probably won’t cause a fire since they were designed to run indefinitely. What matters most is whether or not you left something on top because it will catch fire and cause a fire.

It is impossible to remove scratches from your cooktop once they have occurred. The best you can do is to prevent them with proper care. Cast iron cookware, for example, can leave scratches on your stove, so avoid using it. Do not use abrasive cleaning products or metal pads when cleaning. You will end up doing more harm than good if you use them.

The electric current of your gas stove is regulated by a switch, the spark module, located directly behind the control knob. If this switch becomes faulty, it is likely to result in continuous clicking or malfunction in that electrode. When it clicks, the electric flow is stuck. However, even though each burner has a different switch, they are generally connected via a harness, which forces you to change every switch.
